Woodstock Diaries treats the material chronologically, allowing the viewer gets a much clearer view of the progress of the festival and the sequence ofactions of of themusicians and groups than in the original film . Moreover, the authors chose to separatefrom each festival a nearly 60-minute documentary, with the latter, on Sunday, August 17, 1969, ends with the memorable performance of Jimi Hendrix in the morning hoursthe next day. His unique interpretation of the Star Spangled Banner, later elevated tosome mascot of the Woodstock Festival, should not be missed. For the rest, the makersas much as possible new material selected from the musical acts.
On day two bites Quill going first, but like Canned Heat, Mountain, the band did not findmuch, at least not in the material presented here. Canned Heat will remain forever a one hit wonder, although Bob Hite will do anything to the atmosphere to raise the wetfestivalweide.Het was waiting for Sly And The Family Stone before the flame finally hitsthe pan, warm-up for an underestimated The Who Tommy from previously quoted on thisDVD and My Generation in the late pop sound equipment. Pennebaker also clearsspace for the two big hits of Jefferson Airplane.
CONCLUSION
Woodstock Diaries song brings a new selection of performing artists and new nameslike Bert Sommer, Ravi Shankar, Quill, The Band, Johnny Winter and Paul Butterfield.Melanie and Creedence Clearwater Revival are banned here, but the whole is backed up by an interesting interview with the financiers in New York, John Roberts and JoelRosenman, so some things into perspective. As a sequel to the original Woodstockmovie, this release is a useful asset in any case.
